Kitsets
You can assemble kitset parent items while entering an order if the Inventory Kitset sub-module is in use.
You can define a kitset parent item as being stocked or not stocked. When you enter a sales order inventory line, and the item is a kitset item, you can set additional process options when entering an order.
Stocked Kitset Parents
If a sales order line is entered for a kitset parent item that is stocked, the line processes as normal as long as there is sufficient inventory to allocate to the line.
If there is insufficient inventory to allocate to the line, the Insufficient Inventory Available form displays when the quantity is entered into the order line. Click the Make-to-Inventory option to open the Inventory Kitset Parent Make-to-Stock form.
The form loads the details of the kitset parent and required components, taking quantities required from the sales order line quantity entered for the parent item. You can process a kitset make-to-inventory transaction if there are sufficient quantities on hand of component items. Greentree Desktop processes the inventory receipt and issues transactions behind-the-scenes, and you returns to the sales order line if the quantity required is available.
If the quantities are not available, you can't process a kitset make-to-inventory transaction. Options for the sales order line are available — for example, you can put the line quantity on backorder.
Non-Stocked Kitset Parents
If you enter a sales order line for a kitset parent item that is not stocked, the IN Select Kitset Components form displays when you enter the line quantity. You can view and select the quantities of kitset components by location.
If locations are in use, you can view component inventory for a specific location, a specific warehouse, or anywhere. Click Apply to return component quantity and location details to the table. When the form is first loaded, the location option uses the Inventory Module Control kitset location default.
The process only incorporates an issue transaction for each selected component. The sales order line references the single parent item, but because of the nature of the kitset, it is the component items that are picked and distributed to the customer.
You can add or remove lines, change quantities, or select substitute component items before processing the kitset transaction, using the controls of the kitset parent defined on the Kitset Maintenance form.
If there is insufficient inventory available of component items, Greentree Desktop displays an error message and you can't process the kitset transaction. Click Cancel to return to the sales order line, and change the quantity or remove the line.
If:
- The option Do not display details when you enter a transaction if required quantities are available on the Defaults tab of the Inventory Module Control form is selected, the IN Select Kitset Components form does not display if there is sufficient inventory available of all defined component items for the kitset parent.
- Locations are in use, Greentree Desktop searches for component availability using the location that was entered into the sales order line. If it does not find component quantities available in that location, the IN Select Kitset Components form displays so you can make your own selection.
- A sales order line is for a kitset parent item, click the Kitset button to view the component details of the kitset item. You can change component selections for a kitset line until the line is generated into a packing slip.
