Sticky Note
Use Sticky Notes to add notes on any record in Greentree Desktop.
Click the Sticky
Note
icon on any form to display the Sticky Notes List form.
You must click the Create Note
button on this form to create a sticky note for the record.
A sticky note consists of:
- Date: The date to which the sticky note applies.
- Created By User
- Create Date
- Sticky Note Type: Sticky note types are defined and maintained through Workflow > System > Maintain Sticky Note Types. The type is a classification of sticky notes which can be used when enquiring on on sticky notes. The type can be a template, as it contains a Text field which can be copied to the new sticky note.
- Active/Inactive Indicator
- Notes
Once a sticky note exists for a record, the icon changes
colour to yellow to:

Click this icon to open the Sticky Notes
List form, which lists all the existing sticky notes in a table.
You can drill down on a sticky note to view the detail or to maintain
the note.
Security on a sticky note is controlled through the user privileges set for the record that the sticky note is linked to Privileges tab on the CRM User Preferences form. The Privileges tab on the Workflow User Preferences form contains additional security settings for sticky notes which overwrite the parent record's security.
You can enable a user to:
- Delete a sticky note if the parent record is accessed in read/write mode.
- Change a sticky note if the parent record is accessed in read/write mode.
- Change a sticky note if the parent record is accessed in read only mode.
You can also perform a search on sticky notes using the View Sticky Notes feature.
Note: You can use a system script to convert notes on a type of record (for example: CRM Organisations) to sticky notes.
Options Reference
Each option and field on the form is described below. Mandatory options and fields are highlighted in red.
Source
The source field lists which record the sticky notes, listed in the table, belong to.
This field is display only.
Sticky Notes Table
This table lists all the sticky notes for the source. You can drill down to view the detail of the sticky note.
Show Inactive
Select this option to include inactive sticky notes in the list of sticky notes displayed in the table.
Source
The source field lists which record the sticky note is for.
This field is display only.
Date
This date defaults to Create Date. You can change date to which the sticky note applies. For example, an organisation moves to new premises on a specific date, then Date is the date of move to new premises and Create Date is the date on which the sticky note was created.
Inactive
Select this option if the sticky note no longer applies to the source. The sticky notes list has a tick to indicate if the sticky note is active.
Created By
This field captures the user that created the sticky note. This field defaults to the user who is logged in.
This field is display only.
Create Date
This date captures the date on which the sticky note is created. The date defaults to the system date. You can change the date.
Note Type
Select the type of sticky note to create. You can edit sticky note types on the Maintain Sticky Note Types form.
The type is available as criteria for enquiry on the Sticky Notes form.
The sticky note type also is a template. Click the Apply Type Notes button to copy the sticky note type text to the new sticky note.
Apply Type Notes
Click this button to use the sticky note template, which fills the new sticky note's Notes field with the text of the sticky note type's Note field.
Notes
Enter text for the sticky note.
The text can default from the sticky note type by clicking the Apply Type Notes button. You can enter and edit the sticky note's type on the Maintain Sticky Notes Types form. You can:
- Press CTRL-Enter to start a new line.
- Press CTRL-T to insert the current user's name, the date, and the time.
