Field Properties


The properties for a field can be accessed either by double clicking on the field or by clicking the hand icon hand icon on the toolbar while on the field. Some properties differ depending on the type of field, but these properties/options are the same for all fields:

Field Properties Header

The header of each field property form contains a combo box control displaying all report properties within each section. Selecting a field property from the list highlights it on the report. Once the field is highlighted, standard property maintenance can be applied .

Click the arrow icon beside the Property box to open the Select Control form and expand the view of the section field properties.

Style

These properties control the physical format of the field. Most of the options are also available on the baseline toolbar.

You can also select these options:

  • Border - Select a border type (select None for no border, or a number depending on the thickness of the border required).
  • Stretch - This option is enabled if an image field is selected. You can also select:
    • None - Displays the image the same height and width as the original, but will cut off parts of the image that do not fit in the box.
    • On - This will stretch or shrink the image to fit precisely inside the box around the image resizes to fit even if original image proportions are lost in the process.
    • Proportional - This will stretch or shrink the image to fit in the box. The image is kept in it's original proportion.

      The arrows in the Position section can be used to nudge the field in various directions if to re-position the field.

Format

These properties control the value format of the field. You can select:

  • None - If this option is selected, no special format applies to the field.
  • Numeric - If this option is selected, the field has a numeric format, and these options may be further defined:
    • Negative style - Select Negative sign or Brackets as the preferred option to express negative values for the field.
    • Sign - Select Normal, Negate or Always Positive as the preferred option to express field values.
    • Display decimal places - Select the number of decimal places to display for the field.
    • Display this currency symbol - Enter a current symbol to display one prefixed to the field value.
    • Pad to x characters with this symbol - To pad a number to a specific length, use this option. For example, if you enter Pad to:10 with symbol #, then the value 12.25 is expressed as #####12.25.

      Note: Decimal punctuations and comma thousand separators (if option selected) are included in the total pad width. For example, the value 31254876 displays as 31,254,876.

  • Don't display the decimal point - If you select this option, no decimal point displays for numbers that would normally show decimals.
  • Don't display anything if zero - If you select this option, field values = zero will not display.
  • Include commas - Select this option if you want field values to show commas as thousand separators.
  • Date - If this option is selected, the field has a date format, and you can define these options:

    Select a Short date or Long date format, or select Enter a format to specify a user-defined format for the date field using the available date flags displayed on the form. For example, the short date format displays 3/20/2019 which is in the format M/dd/yyyy. To display the day first, you can enter a format of: dd/MM/yyyy, or similar.

  • True/false - If this option is selected, the field has a boolean format, and you can define these options:

    You can select one of five pre-defined true/false styles. The text that displays in the field uses the style that is selected — for example, if Yes/No is selected, then Yes displays when the value of the field is selected and No displays when the value of the field is false. The Text for true and Text for false fields update with the text as the style is selected, except if Custom is selected, in which case you can enter your own text to display in the field to represent true and false values.

  • Time - If this option is selected, the field has a time format, and these options may be further defined.

    Select either 12 or 24 hour clock as the preferred option to display the time in the field.
