Storage Profile Maintenance

Use storage profiles to determine the receiving and picking hierarchies that Greentree Desktop uses when assigning bins when you enter a transaction, using the stocking location of the transaction.

Options Reference

Each option and field on the form is described below. Mandatory options and fields are highlighted in red.

Code

Enter a code to represent the storage profile, up to 10 characters.

Description

Enter a description of the storage profile, up to 50 characters.

Once the code and description have been saved for the profile, you can define bin hierarchies for the stocking locations to which the profile applies.

Bin hierarchy

Location

Select the stocking location to define hierarchies for within the selected profile.

Note: When you are setting up hierarchies, they are specific to the location you select. To view hierarchies within a storage profile, first select the stocking location in this field to view detail specific to that location.

Receipting hierarchy

This table lists the bin types for the selected stocking location. You can reposition bin types in the Bin Type column to indicate the sort order for receiving inventory into bins at this location. You can click and drag to reposition bin types in the hierarchy table, or you can click the arrow buttons.

Select the Include column to indicate that the bin type is for the hierarchy. Not all bin types set up for the selected stocking location may be relevant for receiving. For example, if you only want to receive into large bins, do not include medium and small bins in the hierarchy. Select the option Show includes only if you only want to display bin types that you have included in the hierarchy.

For example, Greentree Desktop can assign receiving bins using this logic:

Large first: L01, then L02, then L03. When all the large bins are full, it would move on to receiving into medium bins in the following order: M01, M02, M03. When all the medium bins are full, it would move on to receiving into small bins in the following order: S01, S02, S03.

You can select the Reverse option for a bin type to indicate that the order of allocation (to receive into) in the bin type should be reversed when the logic is applied.

Make picking hierarchy reverse of receipting hierarchy

Select this to option to automate the order of bin types in the picking hierarchy. If you select this option, Greentree Desktop sorts the picking hierarchy bin types into the reverse order of those already defined for receiving.

Picking hierarchy

This table will list the bin types that are of the selected stocking location. You can reposition bin types in the Bin Type column to indicate the sort order for picking inventory from bins at this location. You can click and drag to re-position bin types in the hierarchy table, or you can click the arrow buttons.

Select the Include column to indicate that the bin type is for the hierarchy. Not all bin types set up for the selected stocking location may be relevant for picking. For example, if you only want to pick from small and medium bins, do not include large bins in the hierarchy. Select the option Show includes only if you only want to display bin types that you have included in the hierarchy.

The Bins limit value defaults to each item's location picking hierarchy. It relates to how many bins should be allocated to pick from for a specific item. For example, if your warehouse was set up with 100 picking locations, and you held 50 items in inventory, then you can allocate two bins to hold each item. You can set the bins limit to 2, so it defaults to all items assigned this storage profile. Greentree Desktop also uses the value to determine how many bins to replenish with inventory of a particular item.

Note: The receipting hierarchy defined for a stocking location within a storage profile also determines how the bin replenishment process executes. The Module Control option Replenishment method indicates to use the receiving hierarchy to determine how picking bins should be replenished, or whether to use the reverse of the receiving hierarchy. This depends on the physical layout of your own warehouse.

When you have set up your storage profiles, you must assign them to items using the Item Bin Maintenance form. You can also use the Analysis Code Maintenance form to specify default storage profiles to assign to items based on their analysis code.
