Define as Mandatory

You can define a tree as mandatory to ensure that all masterfiles for the tree are assigned to a branch in that tree.

To make a tree mandatory, select the This is a mandatory tree option. You can't make a tree mandatory unless there are no records in the All Unallocated branch. A warning displays if you try to make a tree mandatory and there are unallocated masterfiles.

When a new masterfile is created (for example, a new general ledger account), you can't save the details until it is allocated to a tree branch, if a mandatory tree exists relating to that masterfile.

You can assign masterfiles to trees (whether mandatory or not) in the Custom tab on forms like General Ledger Account Maintenance, Supplier Maintenance, and Inventory Item Maintenance. To do this, double click the name of the tree on the Custom tab to display the tree branches, and then select the branch to allocate the masterfile to.

Note: When a tree is defined as mandatory, an additional option to set one of the branches as the default is available by selecting the branch and right clicking. If a branch is set as the default, any new masterfile that is set up with automatically be assigned to this tree/branch, without the need for the user to make the assignment when the masterfile is created.

The branch that is assigned as the default displays in a different colour (orange/brown).
