IN Inventory Item Bin Maintenance

You can access this form under the Data Entry > Inventory menu, or by clicking the Bins button on the right side of the IN Item Inventory Maintenance form. Use this form to define how the item is controlled within Warehouse Bin Management.

Length/Width/Height/Volume

Enter the item's dimensions. This is used with the bin type dimensions to determine bin capacities for the item.

The dimensions are assumed to have the same unit of measure (for example, metres).

Volume is read only from the IN Item Maintenance Main tab.

You can use the 6:2 decimal format with the Length, Width, and Height. The volume calculation will be accurate in the available 12:4 decimal format.

If you do not enter the item's dimensions, Greentree doesn't automatically allocate bins during transaction entry because it cannot determine what quantity of the item can fit into a particular bin.

Storage profile

When you are assigning storage profiles to the item for the first time, the option Default from IN Analysis Code is enabled. This option updates the item's storage profiles with those assigned to the item's analysis code using IN Analysis Code Maintenance.

Locations only display for the item if they are visible on the IN Inventory Item Maintenance Defaults tab in the location table.

By assigning a storage profile to each of the item's stocking locations, you are confirming that the receiving and picking hierarchies set up for that profile in Storage Profile Maintenance apply when this item is received and picked into or from the stocking location.

Bin capacity

For each bin type used for the item, you must assign a Minimum Replenishment Quantity (Min Repln Qty) and a Maximum Replenishment Quantity (Max Repln Qty) if the Bin Replenishment feature is in use.

The Max Repln Qty manages the quantity of items replenished to picking bins, and it must not exceed the Max Capacity. The minimum and maximum values assigned are used with the Bin Replenishment process. The Max Capacity for a bin type calculates when you first save the form after entering the item's specific measurements (length, width, height).

Greentree calculates values using the item's measurements in conjunction with the bin type's measurements, and values display in red to indicate they are system-calculated. You can change a system-calculated maximum quantity by entering a new quantity in the field in the table. Quantities that have been changed display in black so you can differentiate between system and manual values.

The Eco Movement Qty is applied when the hierarchy selects a bin for filling. This value is the quantity that forms one unit of movement.

Example

A Large bin has a Max Capacity = 1000, and a Max Repln Qty = 500. Greentree only replenishes a maximum of 500 into the bin during the replenishment process. You can use this set up to support mixed bins if there is additional space in the bin (up to 1000 maximum capacity) to replenish a different item into the bin.

Selected location settings

These are specific to a stocking location, so you must click the stocking location in the Storage profile table to enter or view the details of that location.

Picking bins

Use this section to be specific about which bins to pick from in relation to the selected item and stocking location. If you specify one or more bins here, Greentree goes to them when the item is picked, overriding the picking hierarchy logic of the storage profile.

For example, you can add bin locations (04.PICK.P1.)L1 and L2 to the picking bins table. When Greentree processes a picking transaction, it always looks in bin L1 first followed by L2 to find available inventory. If Greentree goes to the bin locations and it does not hold enough inventory to satisfy the order, the storage profile picking hierarchy logic will take over and Greentree will look in other bin locations to satisfy the order.

You can select the option to Lock a picking bin to reserve the bin exclusively for the selected item. If, for example, Lock was selected for bin location L1, 04.PICK.P1.L1 would only ever contain item Windows10 and never any other item. When an item is locked to a bin location, the item code displays in IN Location Maintenance.

Leave the Picking bins table empty if you want the storage profile picking hierarchy logic to apply generally for the item.

Receiving bins

The same logic outlined above for picking bins also applies to receiving bins. You can add bin locations to the table to be specific about which bins to use first for receiving the item. Otherwise, leave empty if you want the storage profile receiving hierarchy logic to apply generally for the item.

Location picking hierarchy

This table displays the bin types of the storage profile, and the default Bins limit from the profile. If you want to change the profile's bin limits to be specific for the item, select the Override option beside the bin type, and enter the new value in the Overridden Bins column.

When you have assigned item-specific bin details, you can enter transactions for the item. Bin assignments are automated behind the scenes during transaction entry, according to the way you have set up Greentree to use bins.

If Greentree applies receiving or picking hierarchies and cannot find a bin to receive inventory into, or to pick from:

• Greentree prompts you to indicate it cannot create the bin assignments; or
• Greentree updates a bin suspense location with the quantity it cannot assign to receive/pick.
