IN Location Maintenance
The Warehouse Bin Management function is enabled at a location for which the Is warehouse option is selected. To enable, this function, select the Use mutli-binning option for the selected warehouse. The warehouse itself may or may not be a stocking location, but with the multi-binning feature turned on, you can create bin locations under any stocking location within that warehouse.
Before you can create bins beneath the stocking location, you must assign which bin types are relevant for the location. This could be one or more of the bin types that is set up in Bin Type Maintenance. All bin types that have been set up display in a table within the Bin types form when the stocking location is selected.
Select the bin types used within the location.
To create a bin, click the
icon on the toolbar while on the stocking location the bin is being created
for. This will clear the form on the right side so you can enter a code
and name for the bin, and assign one of the location's bin types to the
specific bin you are setting up.
Options Reference
Each option and field on the form is described below. Mandatory options and fields are highlighted in red.
Code
Enter a code (up to four characters long) to represent the bin.
Name
Enter a name to represent the bin.
Is bin
Select this option to indicate you are setting up a bin.
Is protected
Select this to have the PO and FO Receipt processes commit inventory at the warehouse level.
Bin type
Assign one of the bin types that was selected as being applicable for the stocking location.
Is locked to
This is a read-only field that displays the code of the item that is locked to the bin. You can lock items to bins using IN Item Bin Maintenance to ensure that a bin is reserved exclusively for the item that is locked to it. This is always empty when you first set up a bin.
Is mixed
Select this option to indicate that the bin may contain multiple items at any one time. If the option is not selected, then the Greentree receiving (and replenishment) hierarchy will not allow Item B to be received into the bin if the bin already contains a quantity of Item A.
You can receive Item B (or any other item) into the bin if it is empty. A non-mixed bin is not exclusive to any particular item (as a locked bin is). Once an item is in the bin, the bin becomes exclusive to that item until the quantity of that item is depleted.
Details table
This is a read-only table that displays details of the items (and related quantities) that are currently held in the selected bin. It is empty when you first set up a bin.
When you have set up your bins, you can specify how you want to use location segments to sort relevant WBM reports.
The next step is to set up your Bin Storage Profiles for each stocking location.
