Units of Measure Maintenance

If you are using the Volume/Unit Conversions module, use this function to define the units of measure to use for inventory items. Each inventory item can have a stocking, purchasing, and selling unit of measure. You can set up associated conversions (to the stocking unit of measure) using the Generic Unit Conversion Maintenance function.

Inventory on-hand balances and values are always using the stocking unit of measure. This is assigned to each item when it is set up in the Inventory Item Maintenance function. If you also want to assign selling and purchasing units of measure to an item, you can define them in the Unit of Measure Maintenance function.

Options Reference

Each option and field on the form is described below. Mandatory options and fields are highlighted in red.

Name

Enter a name for the unit of measure, up to 15 alphanumeric characters. Select this code when you are assigning stocking, purchasing, or selling units of measure to an inventory item.

Description

Enter an extended description for the unit of measure, up to 30 alphanumeric characters.

Active

Select this option to choose this unit of measure when assigning stocking, purchasing, or selling units of measure to an item, or defining unit of measure conversions.

Weight

This option is enabled if the IN Module Control variable dimension options Use in Purchasing and/or Use in Selling are selected. Select the option if the unit of measure has a weight dimension for it.
