Component Line Entry

Enter these details to add a component line to a bill of material:

Sequence

Enter a line sequence number, up to 10 characters. The sequence number groups or sequences component materials to best reflect the manufacturing process. When you save a bill of material, the component lines are sorted in sequence order, followed by code order.

Code

Select the component inventory code from a list of all inventory codes. If you select an item which also has a bill of material, the line displays in red. Double-click the lines to display the bill of material of the component line item.

Note: If you select an item defined as a phantom manufactured item, the line is highlighted in yellow.

Description

This filed displays the description of the inventory code selected in the Code field.

This field is read only.

Quantity

Enter the quantity required of the component item to make the batch quantity of the parent item, using the parent item's stocking unit of measure.

Allow Qty Change

Select this option to enable the user to change the component quantity required when committing materials using the Factory Order Entry form.

Unit

This field displays the unit of measure of the component item.

This field is read only.

Unit Cost

This field displays the unit cost of the component item and the Bill costing method assigned to the bill of material header. If the component item is costed at location level, the unit cost is derived from the first primary location. If a primary location is not specified, it's derived from the first stocking location.

If the item cost updates using Inventory Costing Maintenance, you must run the Re-calculate cost process before the unit cost updates in the bill of material.

This field is read only.

Total Cost

This is a system calculated field, displaying the Quantity x Unit Cost for the component line.

This field is read only.

Fixed Cost

Select this option to indicate that the component line cost does not vary using the number of parent units that are manufactured.

If you don't select this option, Greentree Desktop multiplies the total cost of the line by the factory order required quantity when calculating the total estimated and actual cost for a factory order component line.

Note: When you create a factory order, for each component line if Fixed Cost is not selected, the component quantity is calculated using the ratio of the factory order quantity to the batch size.

If the component line Fixed Cost is selected, the component quantity is equal to the bill of material line quantity, regardless of the size of the batch.

Narration

Notes attached to the Notes tab on the Inventory Item Maintenance form display here. You can edit the narration so it is specific to the selected bill of material.

If the Bill of Material header option Print line narration on factory order is selected, component line notes display on factory order component lines, but you can edit them while entering a factory order.
