Transitional Area Setup
Transitional areas are non-standard bins that change the receiving and picking process outside of the processing:
- If more than one of the transitional areas is in use across a location, the area names must be unique.
- To be available for selection, you must set the bin to Is mixed on the Inventory Location Maintenance form.
- To create bin transfers to and from the transitional areas, you must select the Automatically generate transaction/document reference option on the Transfer tab on the Inventory Module Control form.
Receiving Area
Use this feature to define a receiving area in the warehouse that is separate from the picking locations. If a receiving area is set up, all inventory receipts for items in bins are received into the nominated receiving area in the first instance.
Greentree can then generate put away requests to transfer the items from the receiving area into bulk or picking bins using the Replenishment and Put Away form.
Packing Area
Use this feature to define a logical or physical packing area in the warehouse. The area is used to temporarily transfer inventory into after it is picked. The picking location's capacity is increased to support calculations made on the Replenishment and Put Away form. If a packing area is not used, the capacity of the picking location is not adjusted until you invoice the picked line.
Set up a packing area the same way you would set up a receiving area.
Note: To generate a bin transfer to the nominated packing area when an order is picked, select the option to Automatically generate transaction/document reference on the Inventory Module Control form for transactions. Greentree Desktop generates the transfer transaction is when the packing slip line option is picked updates to true. When the line is invoiced, the packing area is cleared of invoiced quantities.
Cross docking area
Cross docking is an area to hold receipted goods in a separate area before releasing linked sales orders. The cross docking area is excluded from the picking hierarchy. Inventory held in this area is included in the inventory on hand balance but is not available to other transactions.
