Volume/Unit Conversions
The Volume/Unit Conversions module supports these business requirements:
- Manage inventory using different stocking units of measure. For example, some items may be stocked as eaches, some items may be stocked as cartons, and the like. Item on-hand balances, and valuations are all maintained and reported on using the stocking unit of measure that is assigned to each item.
- Use a different (from stocking) unit of measure for selling and/or purchasing. For example, you can purchase an item in cartons because the supplier sells them in that unit, but to receive the item in eaches because that is how you stock the item. For each item, you can specify a selling, purchasing, and stocking unit of measure, and define the conversions between them. Greentree Desktop applies conversions to convert inventory balances back into the stocking unit of measure for calculating on-hand balances and reporting.
- Define unit-of-measure based prices. For example, you can specify an each price, and a carton price, if a particular item can be sold as either an each, or a carton.
- Manage variable dimensions, which means that although an item may be stocked as an each, the dimensions for it may vary, and the selling price is dependent on the variability of item dimensions. For example, you can stock legs of ham as eaches, but sell them by the kilogram. Using variable dimension function, you can record the kilograms for each item when it is purchased, and also when it is sold, to calculate a price.
