Options Maintenance
Use this form to record or assign option details to inventory items. You can assign these options on the four tabs on this form.
Barcodes
You can only enter item barcodes if the option to Use Barcodes is selected on the Options tab of the Inventory Module Control form. You can enter a unique barcode for an item, by unit of measure. For example, you can enter a barcode for a full carton quantity, and a barcode for an inner quantity.
You can use item barcodes as the priority search when entering a transaction. Use this when — for example, you know the barcode but not the item code. When the barcode is entered and recognised by Greentree Desktop, the item code for it defaults to the transaction line
Note: The unit
of measure of the barcode defaults to the transaction line.
If the option Barcodes unique
is selected on the Options
tab on the Inventory Module Control form, you cannot
enter the same barcode again.
If the item label printing feature is enabled, a unit of
measure must be assigned
to a barcode for the barcode to print on the item
label (if applicable).
Inventory Code Alias
You can enter an alternative name and description for the inventory item. Use this function to assign an alternative name to an item so that it is easier to look up when you enter a transaction.
You can specify to use item alias codes as the priority search when entering a transaction. When the alias is entered and recognised by Greentree Desktop, the item code for it defaults to the transaction line. If the option Item Code Aliases Unique is selected on the Inventory Module Control form, you can't enter the same alias twice.
Substitute Inventory Items
You can specify items to substitute for the selected item. You must select substitute items from a list of items that have already been set up on the Inventory Item Maintenance form.
If you are entering a transaction and the Insufficient Inventory Available form displays, you can select a substitute item to replace the item that does not have sufficient inventory.
If you are using the Kitset module, you can select the Allow Substitutions option which enables you to substitute items when making up kitsets if there is insufficient inventory of specified component items.
Companion Inventory Items
You can specify companion items, which are items that are considered to be related or part of the selected item. For example, if you are selling a television, a television stand is a companion item. You must select companion items from a list of items set up on the Inventory Item Maintenance form.
If you select the Sales Order User Preferences option Enable companion item selection, the user is notified if companion items exist for line items as they are entered, and can add companion items to the sales order or packing slip.
