Suspense During Picking
This feature is enabled if the UT User Preference option Enable bin suspense on picking is enabled. You should only use suspense when there are exceptions to the process.
This feature applies when Greentree cannot automatically allocate bins to pick from during transaction entry, based on the item's bin-specific data, and the location storage profile. For example:
- While there is sufficient inventory in the stocking location, there is insufficient inventory in the nominated picking bins within the stocking location;
- While there is sufficient inventory in the stocking location, some of the picking bins within the location are inactive.
- The option to oversell inventory is enabled, so inventory at the stocking location can fall below zero.
If the bin suspense option is enabled for picking, when Greentree is unable to find bins to pick from during transaction entry, it will pick the required quantity from bin suspense. Greentree can only do this if the stocking location has sufficient inventory to satisfy the order, but the bin locations within that location do not.
The integrity of item quantities at the stocking location level remains unaffected by the use of suspense because the stocking location still reflects the full quantity of the transaction. Bin suspense acts as a dummy bin location beneath the stocking location, for balancing bin quantities within the stocking location.
Example
Between receiving inventory into bin AK.001.L01 and entering a sales order for the item, the bin location is made inactive because the location is on hold as the product within the location is being re-labeled or re-packaged.
If a sales order is entered for the item for a quantity of 10, Greentree picks a quantity of 8 from AK.001.L02. Since it cannot find another active bin with inventory of a sufficient quantity to satisfy the order, it picks the remaining two item from bin suspense.
If you do not have picking suspense enabled
in UT User Preferences, Greentree
displays a message that it cannot allocate bins with sufficient inventory
to satisfy the order line quantity. You can't generate the packing slip
if the order line quantity remains greater than the quantity Greentree
can allocate to a bin.
When you save a transaction, the location balances for the item update. The stocking location reflects that after picking a quantity of 10, the balance of AK.001 is now 62. The bin location balances beneath the stocking location to show that bin AK.001.L02 is now depleted of inventory. Bin AK.001.L01 still shows its original balance of 64, but a balancing transaction of -2 shows against the bin Suspense location.
Serial/Lot
If the item is serial/lot controlled, the receiving suspense option also integrates with serial/lot suspense.
