Dimension Maintenance

Use this form to define the dimension types, and specific dimensions that are assigned to items using the Assign Item Dimensions form.

Options Reference

Each option and field on the form is described below. Mandatory options and fields are highlighted in red.

Dimension type

Enter a dimension type, up to 20 characters long. This describes the high-level type of dimension that can be applied to any item for tracking inventory at a level lower than the item itself, for example, length, colour, size.

InformationYou can edit the dimension type description at any time, and the change will be reflected in all other forms where this type is used.

Dimension

You can define multiple dimensions for a dimension type. Enter or select the specific dimension, up to 30 characters long.

For example, you can set up two specific dimensions (1.2 and 1.5) for the dimension type Length.

Description

Enter a more detailed description for the dimension, up to 50 characters long.

Default conversion

This field defaults to 1.000. It represents the multiply factor for the specific dimension, enabling dimension integer quantities entered during transaction entry to be converted into a stocking unit of measure quantity for the dimension and parent item.

For example, the length 1.2 has a conversion factor of 1.2, which indicates that if 10 pieces of this length are entered during transaction entry, then the item's stocking unit of measure is a quantity of 12 (10 x 1.2). You can enter a conversion factor of up to nine decimal places.

Active

As specific dimensions are set up, they default to active. You can assign the dimension to an item using the Assign Item Dimensions form. If the dimension is not active, deselect it. You can't assign the dimension to an item, or use it during transaction entry.
