Instant Secure or RPS Primary Database Backup

When a database is configured and run as an Instant Secure or RPS database, the EnableArchivalRecovery option is always assumed to be selected, regardless of how it is set in the .ini file. This is because the primary database has a role to transfer journal files to a secondary database.

If EnableArchivalRecovery is selected, the backup and restore process for an Instant Secure or RPS primary server is different compared with most non-Instant Secure or RPS-aware databases.

If the Instant Secure or RPS role of the primary database is not a high priority (for example, when it can easily be re-established), you can apply this online backup and restore process:

• Backup the Instant Secure or RPS primary server using the Quiesce (or read-only) mode.
• To restore the database, run the this command to clear the Instant Secure or RPS primary role of the database:

  jdbutilb.exe path=<database path> clearRole

• Open the database as normal. However, the database loses its role as an Instant Secure or RPS primary database.
