Maintain Critical Items

Use this form to indicate that an inventory item is critical to the MRP process. This is usually an item with a long lead time, a high value, or one that is critical to the manufacturing process for some reason.

To specify that an item is critical, select the box in the Critical column. The BOM Parent column updates and displays a tick if the item is a manufactured item it has a bill of material.

When the MRP Generation process is run, you can include critical items only to determine:

Whether there are any potential issues about the supply of critical items, or
Where system performance (in running calculations) is an issue and to limit the MRP process to include only items you have flagged as being critical.

If a critical item has a bill of material, or is a component in a bill of material, all related parent items and components are included in the generation process when critical items are selected.
