Transaction Entry
If an item is dimension-controlled, you can assign dimension details
to inventory transaction lines on these forms:
- Inventory Transaction Entry
- Sales Order Entry
- POS Entry
- Packing Slip Maintenance
- PO Order Entry
- PO Receipt Entry
- PO Shipment Entry
- AP Invoice Entry
- AP Credit Note Entry
- AR Invoice Entry
- AR Credit Note Entry
When you enter a transaction for an inventory line for an item that
is dimension-controlled, enter dimension details before the saving the
line. The sum of dimension quantities that you enter is validated against
the transaction line quantity.
You can enter transactions for dimension-controlled items when the item
is:
- Both serial/lot controlled and
dimension controlled.
- Dimension controlled only.
Whether or not a dimension controlled item is serial/lot controlled,
this applies to transaction entry:
- If unit of measure conversions have been set up for the item (for
example, stocking to selling and/or purchasing unit of measure), the
standard conversion process applies when you enter a transaction.
The final balances at the item's parent and dimensional levels are
always reflect the stocking unit of measure.
- When dimension quantities are entered when you enter a transaction,
they are always integers. The dimension conversion is then applied
to convert the piece quantity into the item's stocking unit of measure
quantity.
- For transactions with a decreasing
effect on inventory, you can only select dimensions for adjustment
if there is a quantity available greater than zero at the item/location/lot
(if in use)/dimension level.
- When transactions are saved, these item quantities are updated
at the dimension level:
- Quantity on hand - units (pieces).
- Quantity on hand - stocking unit of measure.
- Quantity committed - units.
- Quantity committed - stocking unit of measure.
- Quantity available - units.
- Quantity available - stocking unit of measure.
The dimension conversion always converts unit quantities into stocking
unit of measure quantities.
You can view item dimension balances using the Location Balances by
Dimension form, which you can open from the Inventory Item Maintenance
form. All dimension balances are tracked by location if locations are
in use.
