Printer Setup

To set up printers, click Setup on the Processing System Status and Setup form, and then select Printer setup from the Setup selection dropdown list.

Every system must have at least one printer setup. To run the print queue on the server, the server must have a driver for the printer. You must run Greentree Desktop and complete the setup on the computer the queue is running on.

To view the details for a printer that is already set up, you can select it from the Printer name dropdown list or click the arrow buttons at the top of the form.

Options Reference

Each option and field on the form is described below. Mandatory options and fields are highlighted in red.

Printer name

Enter a name for the printer — for example, Greentree server printer. This is the name users see when they print a report and select a printer to use.

Workstation

This is the computer that uses the print queue. To define a printer for a workstation, run the setup on that workstation. You cannot change the workstation's name. The name defaults to the name of the computer you are working on.

Windows driver

If you selected the This is a Windows printer option, select the driver for the printer from this dropdown list. The list displays only the drivers for printers available to the workstation. The driver can be for a local printer or a network printer.

Paper source

Select the tray from which the printer draws paper from the dropdown list.

Duplex

Select:

  • None - Print on one side only.
  • Vertical - Flip the pages to portrait orientation.
  • Horizontal - Flip the pages to landscape orientation.

Paper Size

Select the size of paper to print to.

Printed Copies

This value is used in the dialog when adding print jobs to a queue, and is referenced when reports are hotprinted.

If you selected the This is a dot matrix printer option, enter the path to the printer in the Printer path field. You should use a port (for example, LPT1) or a path (for example, \\computerName\printerName) for the printer. If you are using a port, it should not have a colon at the end.

Note: Dot-matrix printers ignore graphics, fonts, font sizes, and character formatting in a report.
