Load States and Cities

Use this form to upload a CSV file containing state or city information to Greentree Desktop, which uses the information in the file to lookup addresses.

Click the Load States/Cities button to display the Import States/Cities form.

Options Reference

Each option and field on the form is described below. Mandatory options and fields are highlighted in red.

Load Template

If you have an import template set up, navigate to its folder by clicking the Browse button.

Note: The Greentree Templates directory (distributed with Greentree) contains sample state and city templates.

When you select a template, a message displays to remind you that any previously-entered values are overwritten by the values in the template.

Source File

Click the Browse button to select the source file by navigating to its folder. This is the CSV file of updated states or cities in the \bin directory.

File Type

Indicate the file type: Delimited or Fixed Width.

Start import at row

Enter the row number from which the import must start. If the file contains Headings, always start to import from row 2.

Replace existing records

Indicate whether existing data must be replaced. If you select this option, all current data are deleted.

Columns to Import/Order of Columns

You don't need to select the state fields to import from the list of Columns Available. The default selections displayed are mandatory as is the order of fields selected. These must be in the same sequence as the fields in the import file.

Column Separator

Select the character that separates the columns within your import file. The default is a comma.

Quote enclosed column data

This is the character that indicates an alphanumeric field.

Preview of file

This table displays the data formats of all fields being imported. If changes are required before continuing, click Back and update the previous data entry forms.

If everything is correct, click Next. A confirmation form displays. Click Next to proceed with the import.

Country

States and cities relate to specific countries and the country code is not included in the import file.

If you're:

  • Using a template, you must select the country regardless of whether the country code was selected at the beginning of the process.
  • Not using a template, the country defaults to the one that was selected on the Country Maintenance form.

Click Next to move to the next entry form if you can specify the import log and error files.

Save

Use this option to save the definition of your import file specifications as a template.

Click Finish to import the codes. A summary of import file records processed, and any records that are in error displays beneath the progress bar. You can view the error and log files to get more detail.
