Load Postcodes

Use this form to upload a CSV file containing post code, suburb, state (or city), and time zone information to Greentree Desktop. You can use the post codes to look up addresses throughout Greentree Desktop.

After you click the Load Postcodes button, the Import Post Codes form displays.

Options Reference

Each option and field on the form is described below. Mandatory options and fields are highlighted in red.

Load Template

If you have an import template set up, select it by navigating to its location.

You should create templates for data files you intend to load regularly. An import template (with the extension .ipt) contains the fields, start row, formats, and the like that must be in the import file. Each time you import data, you can use the import template instead of having to set up the definitions.

Note: The \templates directory contains sample post code templates for Australia, USA, and New Zealand.

Where you select a template, a message stating that any previously-entered values are overwritten by the template values displays.

You can use the post codes template NZPostcodes.ipt in the \bin directory when importing the updated post codes for New Zealand.

Source File

This is the CSV file containing the updated post codes in the \bin directory. Navigate to the folder containing the source file by clicking the Browse button.

File Type

Indicate the type of file: Delimited or Fixed Width.

Start import at row

Enter the row number from which the import must start. If the file contains Headings, always start to import from row 2.

Replace existing records

Indicate whether existing data must be replaced. If you select this option, all current data are deleted.

Columns to Import/Order of Columns

Select the post code fields to import from the list of Columns Available.

Note: The order of fields you select must be in the same sequence as the fields in the import file.

Column Separator

Select the character that separates the different columns within your import file. The default separator is a comma, used commonly for CSV files.

Quote enclosed column data

This is the string delimiter within your import file that indicates an alphanumeric field.

Preview of file

This table displays the data formats of all fields being imported. If changes are required before processing, click Back and update the data entry forms. If everything is correct, click Next. A confirmation form displays.

Click Next to proceed with the import process.

Country

Post codes relate to specific countries and the country code is not included in the import file. When you use a template, you must select the country, regardless of whether or not the country code was selected at the beginning of the process.

If you aren't using a template, the country defaults to the one that was selected on the Country Maintenance form.

Click Next to move to the next entry form if you can specify the of import log and error files.

Save

Use this option to save the definition of your import file specifications as a template. Use the browse function to specify the location and name for the import template (with the extension .ipt) to be created.

Press Finish to import the post codes. A summary of import file records processed, and any records that are in error, display beneath the progress bar. You can view detail using the error and log files.
