Compact Files
Run this utility if the output from the Evaluating free space function indicates that there is free space. It optimises the use of storage and reduces file fragmentation. Run the compact utility periodically. Compacting a database file creates a copy of the file, and re-arranges how the file is stored on disk. Compacted files are generally smaller than the original file.
To run the compact utility, select the Compact Files option from the Operation menu. Click Add All files, and then click OK.
While this operation running, a progress dialog displays to the form that enables you to monitor the progress of the operation. You can abort the run, by clicking the Cancel button. When the operation is finished, this message displays:
Database file compaction complete
This process generates a file called compact.log.
Note: The compact process may take some time. Use your backup strategy test plan to establish approximate timings for this utility.
