Import Duty Code Maintenance
Use this form to set up duty codes, which represent rules that apply to your business, using the countries (or country groups) that you import from. The code and description should indicate the type of items that are covered by this duty code, or the rate.
You can assign multiple duty groups to one duty code, each with different rules. You can do this when the duty for a specific item differs, depending on which supplier or country it is purchased from.
On the Shipment Entry form, Greentree Desktop determines which duty code is assigned to the line item, then checks the shipment supplier to determine which duty code or duty group combination to use for the calculation.
Options Reference
Each option and field on the form is described below. Mandatory options and fields are highlighted in red.
Import Duty Calculation
Rate %
This is the percentage rate by which the total value of the shipment line (quantity expected x unit cost) is multiplied by to calculate the duty for the line. For example, if the total value of the line is $300, and the duty rate is 10%, duty for that line is $30.00.
Specific Value
This is a pre-determined value that Greentree Desktop uses if you select the calculation method Value Only, Higher of Rate of Value or Rate, and Value Added.
Note: This is a per unit value.
Minimum
This is the minimum duty value that must be applied to the shipment line. It represents a per unit value. For example, if duty is calculated for a shipment line at $2.50, and the minimum duty value is $5.00, Greentree Desktop recalculates the duty as $5.00. You can leave this value as 0.00.
Maximum
This is the maximum duty value that can be applied to the shipment line. It represents a per unit value. For example, if duty is calculated for a shipment line at $75.00, and the maximum duty value is $50.00, Greentree Desktop recalculates the duty to be $50.00.
