MRP Low Level Codes

MRP is calculated in increasing order of low-level codes assigned to each item. It starts at level zero, then moves to level 1, 2, 3 and the like. Each inventory item in a bill of material is assigned a low level code, depending on if it is used in the structure.

The low level code assigned to an item is the largest number at which it is used across all inventory items. Greentree Desktop dynamically updates low level codes when a bill of material is maintained.

Low level codes are not visible to users.

Example

Item A has an indented bill of material that includes the following sub assemblies:

  • Assembly X
  • Assembly Z - which is a sub assembly of Assembly X
  • Assembly Y

Item B has a bill of material that includes these sub assemblies:

  • Assembly P
  • Assembly Y - which is a sub assembly of Assembly P

Both item A and B use Component C1.

Here's an example of how the low level code is assigned in an individual bill of material structure:

Component C1 is assigned a low level code of 3, as that is the highest level number that it displaysacross all bill of materials - in this case, bills for items A and item B.

For items that are not a bill of material parent or component, a low level code of zero is assigned, with the exception of kitset items which are assigned a low level code of -1.
