Suspense During Receipt

This feature is enabled if the User Preferences option Enable bin suspense on receipting is selected.

You should only use suspense when Greentree Desktop cannot auto-allocate receiving bins when you enter a transaction, using the item's bin-specific data and the location storage profile. For example:

  • There is a gap in the WBM setup and Greentree Desktop can't determine which bins apply to the item.
  • All bins the item can be received into are already full, or will become so in the process of partially allocating the transaction line quantity.
  • While bins have capacity, they may have been made inactive.

If the bin suspense option is enabled for receiving when Greentree Desktop is unable to allocate bins when you enter a transaction, it puts the quantity of any shortfall (line quantity less bin allocated quantity) into bin suspense.

The integrity of item quantities at the stocking location level remains unaffected using suspense. The stocking location still reflects the full quantity of the transaction. Bin suspense acts as a dummy bin location beneath the stocking location to balance bin quantities in the stocking location.

Example

The transaction line quantity is 130. Only one bin is available for the item when entering a transaction, with a capacity of 125. With the receiving suspense option enabled, Greentree Desktop allocates 125 to bin AK.001.S01, and allocates the remaining quantity of 5 to bin suspense.

Note: If you do not have receiving suspense enabled the User Preferences form, Greentree Desktop displays a message stating it could not find enough bins to allocate the quantity to. You can't save the transaction if the line quantity remains greater than the quantity Greentree Desktop can allocate to bins.

When a transaction is saved, the location balances for the item update. The stocking location still reflects that 130 were received into AK.001. The bin location balances beneath the stocking location show that a quantity of 125 is in bin AK.001.S01, and a quantity of 5 is in suspense. This status indicates that while there are physically 130 of the item in the stocking location, 5 of them are in suspense.
