Dimension Maintenance

Use this form to define the dimension types, and specific dimensions that are assigned to items on the Assign Item Dimensions form.

Options Reference

Each option and field on the form is described below. Mandatory options and fields are highlighted in red.

Dimension type

Enter a dimension type, up to 20 characters. This describes the high-level type of dimension that you can apply items for tracking inventory at a level lower than the item itself — for example, length, colour, or size.

Note: You can edit the dimension type description , and the change is reflected on all other forms if this type is used.

Dimension

You can define multiple dimensions for a dimension type. Enter or select the dimension, up to 30 characters.

For example, you can set up two dimensions (1.2 and 1.5) for the dimension type Length.

Description

Enter a detailed description for the dimension, up to 50 characters.

Default conversion

This field defaults to 1.000. It represents the multiply factor for the dimension, enabling dimension integer quantities entered when you enter a transaction to be converted into a stocking unit of measure quantity for the dimension and parent item.

For example, the length 1.2 has a conversion factor of 1.2, which indicates that if 10 pieces of this length are entered when you enter a transaction, then the item's stocking unit of measure is a quantity of 12 (10 x 1.2). You can enter a conversion factor, up to nine decimal places.

Active

As specific dimensions are set up, they default to active. You can assign the dimension to an item using the Assign Item Dimensions form. If the dimension is not active, deselect it. You can't assign the dimension to an item, or use it when you enter a transaction.
