FREE System Setup

The System Setup menu option provides the configuration information needed to open the connection, to set preferences, and for Greentree Desktop function call counting.

Options Reference

Each option and field on the form is described below. Mandatory options and fields are highlighted in red.

Bin Directory

This is the \bin folder of the workstation you are setting up, which contains the JADE form files. For a Thin Client set-up this must be referenced from the servers point of view.

System Directory

This is the directory pointing to the database. On a multi-user system, Greentree Desktop must reference this directory from the server's point of view.

Ini File

If running a multi user system, this must point to the .ini file that has the TCPServerPort of the server — for example, if using a Thin Client connection it does not use the Application Server .ini file. Instead, it uses the .ini file of the server, in which case it must be referenced from the point of view of the server.

Multi-user Greentree

Select this option if the workstation is accessing Greentree Desktop using a Greentree Desktop server.

Open Greentree Desktop on Startup

This indicates whether the login dialog box displays when the add-in is activated. Normally this occurs when Excel is first opened.

If a user normally works with Greentree Desktop when in Excel then they can set it up so that they log in with a password when Excel starts.

Update Worksheet Only

This option indicates whether to update just the current worksheet, or all worksheets when you select the Refresh Data menu option is selected.

If this option is selected, then only the current worksheet is forced to recalculate by Excel and retrieve data from Greentree.

If there are dependencies from the current worksheet to other worksheets then these are updated by Excel as part of its calculation process. If this box is not selected then all worksheets is forced to recalculate and retrieve data from Greentree Desktop when the Refresh Data option is selected.

Hide Zeros doesn't do a Refresh

Select this option if the hide zeros function may take a long time to run if a refresh is done each time, particularly if there are multiple hide functions in the worksheet(s).

Unhide all rows and columns before doing a Refresh

If this is selected, a Refresh unhides all cells before refreshing. If you select this option, the refresh process may be slow.

Display update results form

If you select this option, a transaction update results form displays during the update process. The update form confirms successful updates and highlights any failures if applicable.

Register Greentree Desktop Interface

Click this button to register the file Interface.dll.

WARNING: It is not always appropriate to use the Register Greentree Desktop Interface option if you are setting your system up using DCom, as the setup path is not correct to register the interface locally. Check with your Greentree consultant for more information about setting up FREE using DCom.

Call Count On

This flag determines whether the Excel function calls are counted as they are being run. Greentree Desktop function calls only are counted. This setting is also stored in the user's registry.

Call Counter

This is a view-only field that displays the number of Greentree Desktop function calls made since either Excel started, the Call Count On flag was set, or the Reset button was clicked.

Performance Tracking On

This feature provides performance-measuring statistics for function calls. It accumulates average elapsed times for both Excel and Greentree Desktop calls, along with totals.

Reset Count

Click this button to reset the Call Counter to zero.

Some of the System Setup form is disabled when the database is open. Close the database first using the Login menu option to change any configuration settings that are read only.

When either OK or Apply is selected, the settings are stored permanently in the user's Windows registry so the configuration only must be done once for each user.
