Editor Palette


Use the Editor Palette to modify the controls on a form that you're customising. While you can't change how the controls on a form work with Greentree Desktop, you can make cosmetic changes to those controls.

Options Reference

Each option and field on the form is described below. Mandatory options and fields are highlighted in red.

Title

If you want to change the name that appears in the title bar of the form, type a new name in this field.

Background

Use these settings to change the background colour of sections controls on the form like fields, lists, and labels:

  • Colour - Click this setting to open a palette where you can choose the background colour of the control.
  • Colour Scheme - Optionally, select a pre-defined colour scheme from this dropdown list.
  • Transparent - Greentree ignores the background colour setting and uses the form's default background colour.

Note: Not all options are available for all form elements.

Size

Use these settings to change the size of an control on the form:

  • Width - The control's width, in pixels.
  • Height - The control's height, in pixels.

Access

Use these settings to change whether or not users can see or edit an control on the form:

  • Hidden - The selected control will not appear on the form.
  • Read only - Users can't select or enter information into the selected control.

Label

Use these settings to change the appearance of the labels on a form — for example, to make them stand out:

  • Label - The name of an control — for example, a field or a button.
  • Colour - Click this setting to open a palette where you can choose the colour of the control.
  • Colour Scheme - Optionally, select a pre-defined colour scheme from this dropdown list.
  • Font Size - Enter the size of the text of the label, in points.
  • Bold - Adds bold to text and numbers in label.
  • Italic - Adds italics to text and numbers in a label.
  • Underline - Adds an underline to text and numbers in a label.

Position

Use these settings to change where an control lies on the form:

  • Parent - Each form in Greentree Desktop is made of a number of sections called boxes. Select a box from the list to move an control into that box. Greentree moves the control to the top-left corner of the box.
  • Left - The distance, in pixels, of the control from the left margin of the form.
  • Top - The distance, in pixels, of the control from the top of the form.

Tab Order

You can change these settings:

  • Index - Determines the control's place in the order in which users can navigate to it from other controls using the Tab key on their keyboards. If you've selected a tab on the form, this setting determines there the tab appears in the list of tabs on the form.
  • Tab Stop - Select this option to enable users to move to the control by pressing the Tab key on their keyboards.

Note: Not all options are available for all form elements.

Value

Use these settings to set the behaviour of controls on a form:

  • Mandatory - Users must select the control or enter information into it.
  • Persistent - The information you entered in a field or selected from a list is not cleared when you click the Clear or Save icons on a form.
  • Force Capitals - Select this option to convert the contents of a field or a list, or of search results, to all capitals.
  • Sorted - The contents of the list will be sorted.
  • Default - Set the default text or value for an control. If the control is a checkbox, you can select one of these options:
    • None - This value is optional.
    • True - The checkbox is automatically selected when a user opens the form.
    • False - A user must select the checkbox.

Note: Not all options are available for all form elements.

Save/View Button

The label on this button changes depending on the state of the customisation. The label is Save while you're editing a customisation. The label changes to View (which lets you preview the customised form) once you save your changes.

Click the downward arrow on the right side of the button to access a menu containing these options:

  • Save As - Saves a copy of the customisation with a different name. This enables you modify the customisation for another company or team in your organisation, without needing to manually make the changes again.
  • Close - Closes the Editor palette.
  • Find - Search for controls, such as field labels or tabs, on the form.
  • Undo - Reverts a change you made to a control.
  • Redo - Reapplies a change you reverted, or applies the change you made to another control.
  • List hidden controls - Returns a list of controls which are set as Hidden in the Access section of the Editor palette.
  • List customised controls - Returns a list of the controls that you've customised on the form.
  • List controls in tab order - Returns a list of controls in the order in which users can navigate to them using the Tab key on their keyboards. This list is useful to modify the Tab Order of controls on the form.
  • List controls in hierarchy - Returns a list of all the controls on the form as a tree with branches. Each branch is a tab or a section on the form, and under each branch is a list of the controls on that tab or in that section of the form.
  • Keep on top - Keeps the Editor palette on top of all other windows.
  • Reveal hidden controls - Shows all control which are set as Hidden in the Access section of the Editor palette.
