Manufacturing: More Control over the Order-to-Production Workflow

With MYOB Acumatica 2025.2.1, you gain greater control over when production orders can be created and linked to sales orders. This enhancement is especially useful for make-to-order workflows involving sales orders associated with potential financial risks—for example, orders on credit hold, awaiting prepayment, or pending approval. In these cases, you may want to assess the situation before moving forward.

By specifying new order preferences, you can ensure that production orders aren't created until the conditions are right. This means you reduce risks, avoid premature material reservations, and build greater confidence in the order-to-production process.

New Capabilities

With Version 2025.2.1, you can now:

  • Prevent production orders from being created or linked to sales orders that aren’t financially or operationally secure
  • Define exactly which order statuses allow production
  • Apply different linking rules to different order types, supporting a variety of workflows

How Preferences Are Specified and Used

First, specify the new preferences on the Order Types (SO201000) form, which is shown below:

  • Enable Linking to Production Orders: Select this check box to permit linking sales orders to production orders based on their status.
  • Linkable Sales Order Statuses: Use this multiselect list to specify order statuses whose orders can be linked to production orders.

Once saved, your preferences are enforced across these forms:

  • Sales Orders (SO301000): The Create Production Order and Link Production Order commands allow linking sales orders to production orders in accordance with the new settings.
  • Create Production Orders (AM510000): Only linkable sales orders—those with permitted statuses—appear in the processing list.
  • Production Order Maintenance (AM201500): The Link Sales Order dialog box shows only sales orders with permitted statuses.

What Changed

The new preferences replace the older, less intuitive check boxes:

  • Allow Production Orders – Approved
  • Allow Production Orders – Hold

The new settings provide a clearer, more flexible way to control which sales orders can drive production.

Limitations

Regardless of the linking preferences you specify, you won’t be able to link production orders to sales orders that are already completed, canceled, rejected, invoiced, or otherwise beyond the production stage.

Upgrade Notes

If you're upgrading from an earlier version of MYOB Acumatica, the following changes occur during the upgrade:

  • The new Enable Linking to Production Orders check box is selected for any order type where production was previously allowed.
  • The Linkable Sales Order Statuses list is populated based on your previous settings:
    • If the Allow Production Orders – Hold check box was selected in the previous version, the On Hold status is selected in the list.
    • If the Allow Production Orders – Approved check box was selected, the statuses are selected depending on the automation behavior specified for the order type, as described in the table below.

      Sales Order Open, Credit Hold, Back Order, Pending Processing, Awaiting Payment, and Pending Approval
      RMA Order Open and Credit Hold
      Transfer Order Open and Back Order

We recommend that you review and adjust the list of permitted statuses for each order type after the upgrade to better match your desired workflow.
